Foreign investment in Australia is overseen by the Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB). The legislation governing foreign investment is complex and subject to regular changes.
Essentially, you do not need FIRB approval if:
1) You hold a permanent resident visa and you are purchasing residential property; or,
2) You are purchasing new dwelling(s) from the developer where the developer has pre-approval to sell these to foreign persons.
